Petra, from the very start, always dreamed of becoming a singer. (Home videos from her childhood are stored to prove this)
At the age of 8 she started to attend ballet classes with YADA, (after a few years realised she was not physically adequate to be a ballerina) so she enrolled in musical theatre classes with Masquerade Theatre Arts School. That’s when it was discovered that she had a talent for singing. (and it wasn’t just a dream) She was encouraged to start singing lessons and was classically trained by the exceptional, Gillian Zammit.
Through Masquerade, Petra sang her first ever solo performance, Your Song by Elton John, at her Vocal Technique Concert in 1999. That was the changing moment in her musical life.
Singing quickly became a part of Petra’s life. From constant singing lessons to auditions. At the age of 16, she took part in a very popular charity concert, Voices, where she sung as a soloist.
Having met many musicians and singers Petra wanted to broaden her musical knowledge and met up with Keith Muscat. This started off more as a teacher-student kind of thing,(working mainly or recording and performing) but as time went by the two started gigging in local venues.
In 2007, she made her biggest musical step (thanks to two very important people, her mum and dad) by moving to London to study music. She attended Tech Music Schools in West London, doing a diploma and progressing to a 3 year degree in Popular Music Performance. This step transformed her from a singer to a musician. She finally truly understood what music was all about.
Today, she is a vocal tutor at Masquerade, a singer (also with her own seven piece band) and a band coach.
